threshold

From Threshold to Sovereign Throne: Anubis ➡️ Osiris ➡️ Thoth ➡️ Horus

There are seasons in life when you know you’re changing before you really even have language for what you’re becoming. The old version of you starts feeling too small.. too confined. Certain relationships, roles, identities, ambitions, environments.. even businesses you built with your own hands start to feel strange against your skin. You can still technically occupy them. They may even still be “working”. But something in you knows you’ve already started outgrowing them.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the Egyptian archetypes of Anubis, Osiris, Thoth and Horus as a map for this kind of evolution. Not because ancient Egyptians necessarily laid them out as some neat four step spiritual initiation process, but because the energies tell a story that feels deeply familiar to me. The threshold. The death. The understanding. The embodiment. Anubis → Osiris → Thoth → Horus. The journey from realizing something has to change.. to actually becoming somebody capable of holding said change.

And honestly, I think this shit applies almost anywhere. An identity. A relationship. A business. Leadership. A brand. A family. An entire life.

Anubis: The Threshold

Anubis meets us at the edge. He’s the guide between worlds.. the one standing between what has been and whatever comes next. This is the season where you start seeing things you can’t really unsee anymore.

The relationship may still exist. The job may still exist. The business may still be profitable. The team may still technically be functioning. The identity may still fit on paper. But somewhere underneath all of that.. you already know something here is complete.

Anubis energy feels like discernment. What’s actually alive here? What’s already ended? What am I maintaining because it’s truly aligned.. and what am I maintaining because changing it would be painful, inconvenient, expensive or disruptive?

Personally, that might look like finally admitting an identity, relationship, or role doesn’t fit anymore. In business, it might look like realizing the brand you built a few years ago doesn’t reflect where you’re actually going now. Or that the team structure that got you here can’t take you there. Or that your offer makes money but drains the life out of you. Maybe you keep calling something a growth problem when really.. it’s an alignment problem.

And I don’t think Anubis always means burn the whole damn thing down. Sometimes the work is simply being willing to stop lying about what you can already see.

That’s the danger of the threshold too. We can sit there forever analyzing, preparing, receiving signs, talking about alignment, having meetings, journaling, researching, hiring consultants, asking for clarity.. knowing something feels off while still refusing to cross.

At some point, though, the guide can only take you so far.

There comes a point when knowing something has ended isn’t enough anymore. You have to let it end.

““When the Universe picks you and you put on the magic glasses, there are rules that go with them: You can never take them off, you never see things as they’re supposed to be, you see things as they are, and you can never force anyone else to wear them.””
— Dick Gregory

Osiris: The Dismemberment

This is where it gets a lil heavier. Osiris isn’t just death. His archetype carries dismemberment, reassembly and transformation, and I think that distinction matters because sometimes life isn’t asking you to improve what already exists. Sometimes life is taking the whole structure apart. The walls come down. The compartments stop comfortably holding. The identities that once made sense together start contradicting each other. And one of the questions I’ve found myself coming back to again and again is this:

Who are you when all of your compartment walls fall?

When all of those carefully separated rooms in your life can’t stay separate anymore.. can all of you actually exist in the spaces you keep choosing? Can your truth, your desires, your purpose, your values, your relationships, your work, and the person you’re becoming all breathe inside the same life? And if they can’t.. why the hell are you still choosing spaces that require parts of you to stay outside? C’mon. I know programming has asked most of us to wear masks or omit parts of ourselves at times in the name of self-protection or fitting in.. but this initiation asks us to cut the shit and become more whole.

This is Osiris work.

It’s the stripping away of identities and arrangements that once held us together long enough for us to figure out what and who is actually real underneath them. And dismemberment can feel like destruction at first because we get so used to confusing the configuration of our lives with the truth of who we are.

My relationship. My career. My title. My company. My reputation. My money. My family role. My wounds. My gifts. My spirituality. My usefulness to other people. We bundle all the shit together and call the bundle me.

Businesses do the same thing.

The logo. The offer. The audience. The founder. The pricing. The team structure. The “way we’ve always done things.” We bundle all of that together and call the bundle the brand.

Osiris separates the pieces, whether we like it or not.

Some things need to die completely. Some things come back in a different form. Some were never really ours to carry. Some were real.. but they were living inside structures that couldn’t support them indefinitely.

So the question starts shifting. Less, How do I preserve everything I built?
More, What’s actually worth carrying forward?

Sometimes resurrection is finally acknowledging what was essential.. and letting everything else stay buried.

Thoth: Turning Experience Into Wisdom

This is the part we love to skip, ain’t it? We talk all the time about death and rebirth, reinvention, transformation, pivots, becoming. But there’s a whole stretch of road between What the fuck just happened to me? and Okay.. I know how to move differently now.

That’s where I see Thoth. Thoth is wisdom, language, knowledge, reckoning, integration. It’s the part where we actually have to make meaning from what happened, because experience alone doesn’t make us wise.

You can leave one relationship and recreate the exact same dynamic in another. You can rebuild a company and recreate the exact same dysfunction with a different team. You can rebrand and never change the culture. You can change the website, the offer, the logo, the language.. and still carry the same bullshit into the next version.

You can have an ego death and rebuild the exact same ego with prettier spiritual words. Ask me how I know. 😂

Thoth asks you to actually study what happened. What did I know before I admitted I knew it? Where was intuition speaking.. and where was fear speaking? What kept repeating? What part of this was structural? What part was emotional? What needs language now? What needs a boundary? What needs a system? What needs to become practice instead of another realization I felt really deeply for two days and then forgot?

Ever looked up and wondered why tf you’re repeating the same cycles? Initiation without integration becomes repetition. And honestly.. I think that may be one of the most important pieces of the whole journey.

Thoth is where pain becomes intelligence, where experience becomes language, where chaos becomes pattern, where revelation becomes practice.

In business, this is where insight becomes infrastructure. Saying, “I need better boundaries” is awareness. Changing the client agreement is the integration. Realizing the team has no clarity is awareness. Actually redefining roles, structure, and decision making is integration. Knowing the brand feels disconnected is awareness. Getting clear on what you actually stand for.. strongly enough to build decisions around it.. that’s integration.

Only then are you really prepared to hold something different.

Horus: Embodied Sovereignty

Then we get to Horus. And this is where it starts getting real.

This isn’t I healed. It’s not I learned the lesson. Not even I know who I am.

Horus says, Alright - I can govern now.

I can govern my own energy. My impulses. My time. My resources. What enters my field. I can make decisions without abandoning myself in the process. I can hold power without needing to dominate anybody with it. I can actually live according to what I claim to know.

And in business, I can lead without constantly reacting. I can set direction without needing everybody to validate it. I can build systems that support the vision instead of using my nervous system to hold the whole damn thing together. I can make decisions that protect where we’re going.. even when those decisions are uncomfortable right now.

And suddenly the whole journey starts making a lot of damn sense.

Anubis gave you discernment. Osiris gave you depth. Thoth gave you understanding. Horus asks what the hell you’re going to do with all of it.

That’s where spirituality becomes embodiment.. where strategy becomes leadership. At some point, we have to stop endlessly becoming and actually start living as the person all of that becoming produced.

What Actually Awaits You in Horus?

It’s not perfection. It’s not some timeline where nothing hard ever happens again. And it’s not a business or brand where every decision suddenly becomes obvious. Authority is what happens, babe. The questions change.

It starts looking like:

Instead of Who’s choosing me? ..it becomes What am I choosing?

Instead of Do they recognize my value? ..it becomes Where does my value belong?

Instead of Will people understand the vision? ..it becomes Am I willing to lead it clearly?

Instead of Why did this happen to me? ..it becomes What have this experience, and the lessons I’ve taken from it, made me responsible for?

And instead of constantly asking Can I trust myself? ..at some point the answer becomes, I’ve got enough evidence to move, so I’m moving. That’s Horus energy to me.

Decision. Direction. Stewardship. Creation. Less fascination with potential. More willingness to actually occupy reality. I think that’s one of the hardest parts here because there can be a strange kind of safety in always being “in transformation.” You can keep healing, processing, evolving, refining the vision, restructuring. You may keep waiting for the next sign, or talking about what’s coming.. without ever actually taking the throne. Transformation can become just another place to hide if you’re not careful and honest with yourself.

At some point, sovereignty asks you to stop hiding behind the process and take responsibility for what the process produced.

Horus DoesN’t Erase the Underworld

This may be my favorite part, highkey. Horus doesn’t erase Osiris. Sovereignty doesn’t mean you’ll never enter another underworld. It means you learn how to descend without forgetting who the fuck you are.

You can move through darkness without making it your identity. You can lose something without losing yourself with it. You can question your life without immediately abandoning it. You can let something die without assuming that means you’re dying too. And the same is true in business. You can have a bad quarter without forgetting the vision and your ability to persevere. You can have a failed launch without deciding the whole idea was wrong. You can restructure without destroying the mission. You can lose a team member, change the offer, pivot the brand, close one chapter and still know what the work is really all about. You can let a structure die without losing the soul.

Horus carries what came before him. He doesn’t have authority because he avoided death. He has authority because death became part of his inheritance. And eventually.. another Anubis will show up. Another threshold will come.. another truth you can’t ignore anymore. Another version of yourself, your leadership, your work, your relationship, your business.. that’s reached completion.

The path is probably less like climbing a ladder and more like walking a spiral. Anubis → Osiris → Thoth → Horus → Anubis again. Only the next time you reach the threshold.. you know you’ve survived the crossing before. So you know how to let something end, how to examine the pieces, how to make wisdom from what happened. You know how to rebuild without recreating the exact same shit with a different suit on.

You know how to return to yourself.. over and over and over again.

This Is What Evolution Actually Looks Like

Perhaps evolution isn’t becoming somebody completely new every few years. Maybe it’s becoming increasingly whole.. embodied.. rooted. Maybe evolution and growth mean fewer compartments, fewer identities that can’t coexist, fewer spaces where some part of you has to stay hidden in order to maintain the arrangement.

In business.. maybe it means fewer contradictions between your values and your revenue, your vision and your systems, your external brand and your internal culture. Less fragmentation. More congruence.

More truth occupying the same body. More integrity occupying the same business. More of you able to exist inside the same life. Until eventually the question isn’t Who am I becoming? It’s Can I fully occupy who I already know myself to be? And for a business or a brand.. can what we say we are actually be felt in the way we operate?

That’s the throne Horus inherits.
